The Instructional Designer will take course materials that have already been provided and build them out into online lessons embedded within fully structured LMS courses. This includes setting up modules, pages, assignments, and discussions; building and embedding online lessons; and making sure every course follows a consistent template, navigation pattern, and formatting standard. The final deliverable is a set of clean, ready-to-teach LMS courses.
Key Responsibilities
LMS Course Building
• Build out LMS courses using modules, pages, discussions, and assignments according to a provided course template
• Set up course shells, module structure, and navigation for new and existing courses
• Embed online lessons and other provided materials into the correct LMS modules
• Link and organize assignments, quizzes, and discussions in the correct sequence within each module
• Centralize instructional materials and resources within the LMS, minimizing reliance on static PDFs
Authoring System Lesson Building & Support
• Build lessons in an authoring system using content and materials that have already been provided
• Upload and embed finished lessons into LMS pages and modules
• Check that embedded lessons display correctly and function as intended within the LMS
• Flag any broken links, formatting issues, or display problems for follow-up
Quality Assurance & Consistency
• Proofread course pages, links, and navigation for accuracy and consistency
• Follow established templates and style guides closely across all courses
• Test course navigation and functionality from the student view prior to publishing
• Use available tools, including AI tools, to speed up formatting checks and QA passes
Production & Workflow
• Meet production timelines and volume targets for course builds
• Track build progress and flag any blockers or missing materials to the project lead
• Communicate clearly on status, timelines, and any issues encountered during builds
Qualifications
• Experience in instructional design, course building, ed tech, or a related field; recent graduates welcome
• Prior hands-on experience working in an LMS required; comfortable navigating and building within the platform without training
• Willingness and ability to learn to build lessons in an authoring system; prior experience is a plus but not required
• Comfortable using AI tools to support formatting and QA tasks
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow templates and style guides precisely
• Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple course builds at once
• Ability to work efficiently and independently to meet production deadlines
• Adaptable to working across different subjects and grade levels as project needs shift
